Acrylic on 6x8 canvas board
I have always loved abstract art. I love the shapes and blending of all the colors into seamless composition. I have wanted to try it myself since I began painting earlier this year. It is such a different process for me than painting faces or my landscapes. And amazingly it is the most difficult for me to do.
My analytical brain does not like to work this way! Without a reference point of color and shape I am frustrated with how hard it is for me to just let go and see what the painting does and says to me. But I don't want to give up. I want to learn how to paint this way and not shy away from it.
I think what it can teach me about myself is priceless. So I will continue to push through my fears and my perfectionism moving forward . . .
Cathy, I love it! Beautiful colors and shapes! I find that often when I paint abstract and I allow my hands to take over and work fairly fast with paint, brushes, grounds, stamps and even my fingers, I get into a creative groove that somehow paints the painting by itself. It's very fun for a left-brainer like me!!! You go, girl!! Love, Silke
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way! Let's keep trying together!
ReplyDeleteGreat piece Cathy!
Cathy, I think this is very good. I also have trouble with abstract, my brain just doesn't work that way either. I am sure it is quite freeing so keep practicing and so will I. They are fun to do and if you make a mistake how would you or anyone else know?

If pushing through your fears and perfectionism continues to produce beautiful abstract pieces like this blue and white "Perfection"....by all means keep pushing!!! I love it! :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't do abstract either. I would have to study about it in order to even begin to try and paint it. You did pretty good for a first time. I like the blues of it. Abstract is very interesting. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty cool, Cathy!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to experiment with different medium and styles.
Cheers!
Hi Cathy..gorgeosu! I feel like I am seeing windows and clouds and movement..all interweaving and playing with perception..very symbolic! i love it!
ReplyDeleteCathy Brava!
ReplyDeleteNever give up, your first abstract work is excellent!
I too would like to try, but I have not the courage.:-))
Ciao!!!
This is fabulous. The colors are perfect and there is depth and interest in this piece. Happy painting...
ReplyDeleteWow Cathy so great to see you trying something completely different, I think this is lovely, the colours the texture! I've never done abstract but I feel like my art is getting more and more simplified and that the next step could be to try abstract. I started doing such detailed faces and now I guess you'd call it figurative.....it's so fun to experiment. I'm looking forward to seeing where this takes you!!! Great work! :0)
ReplyDeleteI love how this turned out Cathy! There is so much to see in this piece. Keep going!
ReplyDeleteHi Cathy! How did I miss this? Fantastic! I know how hard it must have been... I have the same problem... my little brain just will not do it! I tried once, but it was half hearted cos I used my favorite picture (The Kiss- Klimt) for inspiration! Simply cannot do from my own little brain!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
