Stretching to Sketch Challenge Week Four!

Here is my Kelly sketch for the weekly challenge. This one was more challenging than I initially anticipated. I was hoping to improve over last week but the back view was alot harder for me. This one is done in graphite pencil as my others but I tried to use all three this time which did help with the shading. And I finally got a kneaded eraser! Wow, that makes it much easier. Now I don't have to sit with a lap full of shredded rubber from the regular one I was using. I erase alot!

I feel like I put too much pressure on myself to do better than the last one. I don't think I realize that with each sketch comes a different set of challenges depending on the view and body parts involved. There will be new things to learn with each one. I need to be kinder to myself!

As always you can jump in and join us anytime! Kelly will be posting the results tonite and then a new photo for this week will be posted tomorrow. Check out the original photo here at Kelly Berkey's blog!

  2. Yes, you need to take the pressure off and be kinder to yourself. I mean, if she doesn't come out perfect THEN WHAT?!!!!.....Nothing! She just won't be perfect! And no one expects her to be...except you! It "IS" a sketch challenge to help you learn, right?! :-) Come on...ease up on yourself a bit. She's actually quite good!!! She certainly looks better than my attempt last week!! ^_^ And I'm NOT doing it again this week!! Learned my lesson. I'm sticking to poetry and crocheting!!!

  3. She's awesome Cathy! My printer is SO low on ink that when I printed out the color photo it was hard to see the end of the wrap hanging down so I didn't get it on there.......she's wearing a diaper in my version. Good grief! Ya done good and I agree.....it was harder. The hair, the hand in the hair, the should, the forearm angle.........it all pushed me but I had fun and look forward to the next.
    See you there :)

  4. Cathy I think you did a fabulous job on this sketch. I found it was harder than I thought also. I had to giggle as I erase a lot too and would not be able to survive without my kneaded eraser.

  5. Hi Cathy, I had trouble with this, too. For me, adding the background gave me even more problems to deal with...I do it to myself. Anyway, I think your sketch is awesome. I can see the difference with the kneaded eraser. So glad your sticking in there with me.

  7. Cathy, I don't know what you don't like--it looks great to me--you've captured Kelly's pose! And yes, don't be so hard on yourself--with each new creation, whatever is, you're always learning!
