Love Is Falling - Paint Party Friday!!

"love is falling all around us"
mixed media on 8x10 canvas board

Happy Paint Party Friday! I was looking through all of my art photos the other day and I found this painting I did last year. I wanted to share it today because it reminds me of how I painted before I became worried about "How" to paint.

She started out as a sketch, and the scene came to life when I put her on canvas. I really had fun creating this. I used burnt sienna and yellow for the background and love the heart tree. As you know I am a sucker for hearts! lol

What I have been struggling with lately is trying to achieve perfection in my art. And the pressure I put on myself actually keeps me away from creating. Sometimes I just want to create cute pretty things like her. And so what if it isn't fine art, it makes me happy and hopefully will inspire others.

I just started taking "She Art" with Christy Tomlinson. I really think it will inspire me to get back to the simple, fun, girls I used to create. I am enjoying the class so far!

Have you felt this way about your art? How do you deal with it?

Don't forget to check out all the great art being shared this week over at the PPF blog!!

  1. I really like her! And I say there's something to be said for doing what you love to do!...And who says it's not fine art?! :-] Isn't art's interpretation in the eye of the beholder?!

  2. perfection. what an evil word! Art, like everything else in life, can not be done perfectly. And you are right - it ends up being a hindrance.
Maybe in addition to the class you can just tell yourself to make messy art. or do things like making random squiggles and finding images in them, or doing art activities that you did when you were a kid - dying paper towels, string art, sloppily painting one side and then mushing the paper down to get a mirror image on the other. While they sound silly, they will get the pressure off and your creative juices will really get stirred.

  3. I love her, her eyes, everything about her! She is just beautiful. No one reaches perfection in art, so I say just be yourelf. I never, ever think a painting is finished...my husband has to yank me away and tell, yes, Crystal it is done! It's the just way of artists I guess. :-)

  6. She is a fantastic piece of art! I wish I had wise words of wisdom for you but I too am working to tame the perfection beast. I have put limits on myself - such as how long I have to make a decision, limit what materials I can use, etc. so I don't get trapped in decisions ever searching for perfect.

  7. She is wonderful!

I have decided to accept that what I produce will not be "perfect" and just have fun experimenting as I can.

She is very sweet and I love your choices of colours.

  9. I have always struggled with making perfect art. For years I would not show anyone my art because I thought it wasn't good enough. Now I feel it's ok if it's not perfect. There is something in the imperfection that makes it interesting! My parents were artists and they were really into realism. I really don't like it so much. I always say that I respect it but it dosen't interest me. If I want a picture of something I will take a photo. I think your girl is lovely!!! Paint what make you feel good. I am with you! My girls make me happy!! Just like yours.

  10. She is perfect and beautiful. I am always amazed when I post 2 pictures, one that I worked hard to make just right and one I just relaxed and had fun. It is the one I had fun with that people connect to and like best. I think it is because when we just let go and create that feeling is translated into our art and others can see it.

  12. What a delightful and charming piece. Many of we artists suffer from perfectionism. Continue your path to more free expressions! HAPPY PPF!

  14. I never liked perfection. Worrying takes all the joy out of art. Just do what you love. And I think your girl is stunning!

  15. I love her and I LOVE the hearts...I like her eyes filled with wonder and vulnerability as love falls around her .... perfectionism...I'm a recovering perfectionist and what I am learning is that it doesn't have to be ANYTHING other than you ...remember not to compare yourself ever just listen to your heart as you did here and you will find freedom in your art!

  16. Hi Cathy she is lovely!!! I think I remember her from last year......I just had a look at your other recent sketch of the girl with the hearts I can't wait to see how this one turns out!!! I know how you feel about trying for perfection in art. I feel like that at times but I know that when I'm painting things that I love to do like my ladies I feel so much more inspired so i just try to do what feels right now. Sometimes things turn out better than others but I'm trying to accept that as part of the process. I think your art and style is beautiful and I've seen it grow so much in the last year!!! :0)

  17. I'm a sucker for hearts too! And I can totally relate to struggling with perfectionism... I think recognizing it and trying to let go and just enjoy the process is the way to break through.

I'm looking forward to seeing more ladies (and hearts!!!)

  19. I love her to and I can see what you mean about creating or rather not. Your so right about just going for it and not worrying about it. I think this is when I certainly produce some of my best work. Hope you continue to have fun with the class Dxx

  20. It's a big hurdle to jump--probably the biggest. Not letting that inner critic squish you is tough business. :) I try to get through it by reminding myself that I have a specific voice to describe my own specific experiences, and that is a good enough reason on it's own to make art. :)
