Attempt At A 3/4 Portrait For Sunday Sketches

Hello everyone! Is it really Sunday already?! This week I thought I would share this for Sunday Sketches. It is my first attempt at a 3/4 portrait. And it was hard! I had more difficulty with this than a side profile which I am new at as well. Something about the eye and nose that gets me. Although I do notice that my noses are improving. lol

I really want to try painting portraits but something about it stifles me. I am too much of a perfectionist. But what I really long to do is paint a really messy portrait, abstract, grungy and dark. I want to paint more with emotion and make people feel. I want to let go of feeling like I need to be perfect.

Ever feel that way?

I will be by to visit you all soon. Come and join us over at Sophia's blog or just stop by and see the beautiful work being shared!

  1. I think she's beautiful!! And I hadn't even specifically noticed her nose until you said something about it!! I guess it's all about perspective, huh?! ^_^ I don't have any artistic 'painting' perspective. I just know what I like! :-)

  7. Wonderful Cathy! The 3/4 view is very hard to do--your shading is right on. And yes, I know what you mean about being perfect--even when I want a piece to be imperfect--I'm still picky with it, if that makes any sense.
And I love whimsical imperfect art--which is what I try to do without all of the overthinking.

  9. wonderful first attempt at 3/4!
yes, letting go of perfection is appealing to me. Not that I accomplish perfection, but I do a mostly art that requires detail. This weekend I did a piece that i put paint on with my fingers... fun and it loosens things up!
