Sketching and Sneezing

untitled
graphite on drawing paper

Despite the fact that I have been sneezing and stuffy for the past few days I picked up my graphite pencils and created this new girl. She looks rather calm so I am guessing she obviously does not sense my frustration with my sinuses and nose! But no words came to mind maybe because I feel foggy. Allergies be damned! I never had them in my life and now the past couple of years I seem to get them every once in awhile.

I am sharing her today over at Blue Chair Diary for Sunday Sketches hosted by the lovely Sophia.

Sunday Sketches

I am glad to finally be back for Sunday sketches. This girl was done with graphite and colored pencil using techniques I learned from Jane Davenport. She shares an easy technique for
figure sketching backs.

I am not a big fan of using colored pencils, I do not really like the gritty look they give. I am partial to graphite with its smooth and easy blendability. Graphite also eliminates the color factor which is always a challenge for me. But I did try to embrace my pencils with this sketch.

I am sharing her over at Sunday Sketches today. Check out Sophia's blog for inspiration! Hope you will join us sometime!

Sketching More Faces . . .

I have been doing more sketching lately. I always miss it when we are apart! lol Here is another face I sketched with new techniques I am learning from Jane Davenport. It is actually making me less stressed with faces because it is easy and quick to get started. I do love this girl a bit more than the last one I shared a la Jane. I think I just feel more connected to her.

For class we are supposed to be sketching with colored pencil but I just cannot bring myself to let go of my erasable graphite! And of course I love the look of monochrome. Maybe its the photographer in me or the fact that I don't want to screw up my sketch with colored pencil mistakes. lol An artist friend of mine suggested using both and I may just do that next time.

There is just something so simple about picked up a pencil and paper that always appeals to me. I can be pretty lazy when it comes to setup and cleanup of painting supplies. Maybe I just need to stop analyzing and just let myself gravitate toward the type of art that appeals to me in that moment. . .

Be A Star . . . New Sketch!

"be the star you already are. . ."

Good morning friends! Well, its the second week in a row that I have slacked on Texture Tuesday. lol But I have been doing some sketching in its place!

I think I was inspired to do the side bun from my last 'she art' girl. I really went overboard on her eyes but I like them! As you know it is my favorite part to sketch. Sometimes I want to put eye makeup on my girls. And I obviously tried to on this girl! lol

The stars came to me after I had finished her and looked at her face. It almost feels as though she told me what she wanted. (weird, I know!) So I listened. I want to try and paint her. If I do I am seeing lots of blue. I would like to use a palette of only blues, even her hair.

Sometimes I jump all over the place. Who knows when I will get to painting her but I am trying not to worry about it and just create what speaks to me at the time. (I will let you know how that works out! lol)

Wishing you all a creative day!

Her Hair Was Made of Hearts . . . New Sketch!

Today was supposed to be my Texture Tuesday post but alas I never got my act together for the challenge this week! Oh well. So I thought instead I would share this sketch I did yesterday.
I was having a bad day yesterday, headachy, not feeling like myself, (again, I know) so I thought about trying to sketch and get my mind off of things.

Lately I have been focusing on sketching realism with my faces but yesterday I thought it would be fun to go back to a more stylized face. And I am glad I did. I like her. Sometimes I get off track with creating what I think I "should" instead of what I truly am drawn to. I wanted to make a pretty face and I think I did!

The idea for her heart hair came after sketching in wavy hair that I hated! lol So as you can probably see I erased that and started putting down hearts.

The words came last that I scribbled up in the right corner. . .

"Her Hair Was Made of Hearts That Fell From The Sky . . . "

I think she will look pretty on a canvas. . .
