Sunday Sketches

I am glad to finally be back for Sunday sketches. This girl was done with graphite and colored pencil using techniques I learned from Jane Davenport. She shares an easy technique for
figure sketching backs.

I am not a big fan of using colored pencils, I do not really like the gritty look they give. I am partial to graphite with its smooth and easy blendability. Graphite also eliminates the color factor which is always a challenge for me. But I did try to embrace my pencils with this sketch.

I am sharing her over at Sunday Sketches today. Check out Sophia's blog for inspiration! Hope you will join us sometime!

Sunday Sketches

I have been doing lots of sketching lately actually more than painting. And I seem to be very drawn to sketching pretty girl faces. This one especially I feel a connection to and I wonder what her story is. The faces always look familiar to me. Maybe they are each a part of me.

Since having learned Jane Davenport's face sketching technique I am creating even more faces. I find it an easy way to get started and I love that. Although I would like to add color to these faces for right now I am enjoying them in just graphite.

I am sharing this today for Sunday Sketches. Stop by the lovely Sophia's blog and see all the beautiful work being shared this week!

Sketching More Faces . . .

I have been doing more sketching lately. I always miss it when we are apart! lol Here is another face I sketched with new techniques I am learning from Jane Davenport. It is actually making me less stressed with faces because it is easy and quick to get started. I do love this girl a bit more than the last one I shared a la Jane. I think I just feel more connected to her.

For class we are supposed to be sketching with colored pencil but I just cannot bring myself to let go of my erasable graphite! And of course I love the look of monochrome. Maybe its the photographer in me or the fact that I don't want to screw up my sketch with colored pencil mistakes. lol An artist friend of mine suggested using both and I may just do that next time.

There is just something so simple about picked up a pencil and paper that always appeals to me. I can be pretty lazy when it comes to setup and cleanup of painting supplies. Maybe I just need to stop analyzing and just let myself gravitate toward the type of art that appeals to me in that moment. . .

Face Sketching And Another New Class :)

As most of you know I love to sketch especially pretty girl faces. I wanted to share one of my sketches using techniques I learned in a new class with Jane Davenport called "Supplies Me". If you have an addiction to art supplies like I do then this class is for you! Each week she covers a new supply and incorporates it into sketching faces and figures. Yes, my addiction to online classes continues! lol

Face sketching has always been challenging to me but Jane shares a quick and easy technique for a face which I used on this girl. I really love how she came out especially the eyes. I was supposed to use colored pencils but went with graphite in case I needed to erase. I only wish I could paint this type of face as easily as I can draw it.

I am sharing this pretty girl today for Sunday Sketches. Stop by Sophia's blog to see all the great work being shared this week!
