Landscape Painting . . . I've Missed You

I have always loved landscapes, in photography, and in paintings.  Despite the fact that I have had a difficult time being loose when I paint them I still love it.  When I discovered art just under 3 years ago I started out with landscapes.  But often I found that I tried too hard to be perfect.  All that did was kink my neck up much like portrait painting does.

I had the idea for this piece a few days ago and decided to give it a try.  I have been getting looser and more abstract with my art as of late so I wondered how that would affect my landscape attempt.  Well, I happily discovered that it enhanced it.  I don't like to use paintbrushes anymore so I was able to paint this with just my hands.  Not easy but fun!  I picked some non typical colors but some of my favorites.  I used payne's gray, alizarin crimson, raw umber, and titanium white.

Looking forward to seeing what you all have been up to!

  1. Painting brushless- the best way! Any time I am using my fingers what I am doing is so much looser. The way you've blended the colors is so serene! Happy PPF!

  5. I love how you choose non typical colors! I can see the wonderful texture too. It's so funny...I paint a lot of girls, birds, flowers, houses, and only a bit in an abstract style. BUT, I LOVE it! I am always drawn to abstracts, especially when it comes to what I would hang in my house. :) Looking forward to seeing more beautiful pieces!

  10. Love love love this! I don't know why, but I just love this kind of lyrical paintings that hover on the line between abstract and landscape and sort of let the viewer decide... <3

  12. What a brilliant idea. I struggle with trying to get things to be perfectly captured (like a photograph would) when I try landscape painting and end up with paintings that look more like paint by numbers rather than capturing the emotional feel of a place. You really captured the raw emotion of the scene here. I need to try your brushless technique. Very nice!

  14. Taking finger painting to a whole new level! This is so pretty...I love the colors and the mood AND I love that you only used 4 colors and told us what they were...I did the same thing with a skyscape a few weeks ago. Love it! Happy PPF!

  17. Love your landscape - the colors are very different, but that adds to the abstract, looser quality. I love unexpected color in art work. Hands are definitely the most fun tools to paint with! Happy PPF
