Rocky's Photo Shoot

Yesterday morning I decided to dust off my Canon DSLR.  For the past few years I have only used my iPhone 4 (yes I still have that old version lol)  and occasionally my Canon powershot D10.
I love macro photography, always have, but I don't have a macro lens.  I supposed I just couldnt justify the expense when I don't use the camera much at all anymore.  But I did play with it couple of years ago in the AV mode.

One of my subjects was of course Rocky.  He was pretty patient with me but there are quite a few blurry shots from him moving around when he must have about had enough of the photo shoot.  lol

I am sure at some point I will be playing with these images on my iPad in some filter apps but until then I kinda like them just as they are.  One of the things I love about the AV mode is how much light it lets in and you can get that blurred background that mimics a macro lens.  These were all shot in black and white.  Love monochrome even in my artwork.

What is your go to camera these days?

Lost In Love . . .

So the new year has begun and I am having trouble shaking off the difficulties of last year.  I know I need to just move on, start anew but my anxiety is high these days.  I am not sure why.

The only thing that keeps me focused and calms me down is creating.  I am not sure what I did without it in my life.  I need to get lost in something.  I need to create something from nothing, I need color, grunge, love.

Yesterday I bought one of those olloclip lenses for my iPhone.  I love macro shots and this little lens clips on your iphone and allows you do shoot macro as well as wide-angle, and fishbowl.  The above image is a macro shot of a very small pendant I wear.  I used snapseed for the altering affects.

What I loved most about it was getting lost for over an hour in the world of digital art.

I loved getting lost in love . . .

Scenes From My Saturday At Botanical Gardens And Gallery News!

Hello my lovely friends!! Hope you are all enjoying your weekend! I was excited to put this post together and share with you some images I shot yesterday at the botanical gardens. Hubby came with me despite his horrible allergies although looking back, probably not the best idea. He sneezed his way through the 2 hours we were there.

It had rained Friday night so there was lots of pretty dew drops to be scene on the flowers! I have always wanted to capture that in a photo. The above shot was taken in the new Azalea Gardens that just opened a few weeks ago. I love azaleas so I was excited to see the new gardens.
This is a beautiful lily that I got super close to! Can you tell I love macro photography?!

Not sure what this one is above but I wanted to get a close up! I have a macro lens on my wish list!

This little bridge was in the azalea garden. So peaceful to walk through! When we got home I realized I took 90 photos! I had no idea I had shot that many! But that is what happens when I am in the zone. I loose all track of time and what I am doing.

This post will be a 2 parter! Lots more to share!

Oh, and in other news I sold 4/6 of my photos at the patient art show! I will be donating the other 2 to the hospital.

And check out my artist friend Kelly Berkey's blog today as she is sharing lots of beautiful art from her trip to the Gallery Off Broadway! You will see a few photos of my art on display! And they are still looking for artists to represent. You can check out that post HERE!

Texture Tuesday Fun!

This week the challenge was to use Kim's "sweet treat" and "silence" textures. I have added the original image below. I took this picture at the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx last year. Normally I am super scared of bees but thanks to the zoom lens on my canon I was able to capture this lovely shot!

If you want to join us and play with textures check out the button along my sidebar!
Wishing you all a lovely Tuesday!

PS . . . Thanks to all who commented on my still life in my previous post! I am so happy you like it just as much as I do! xo

Butterflies at the Bronx Zoo!!

Thanks for all your great comments on my last post! As promised here is part 2! I took these photos in the Butterfly House at the zoo. It was like a greenhouse for butterflies. When we walked in it was light and bright and they were all flying everywhere! One even landed on my hubby's arm! I wish I knew the names of each butterfly.

This one above is my favorite for sure. I love the black and sage colors! I may paint this one!

This one was drinking something. Maybe some fruit juice?

These guys are just enjoying some melon!

I also loved the color of this little one. Much smaller than the others.

Their colors are so vibrant and pretty. I didn't want to leave! I will for sure make another visit to the butterfly house next time we go to the zoo!

Fall . . . Where Are You?!

Ok, so fall has arrived but here in NY you wouldn't know it by the heat wave that has ensued! Starting today until the weekend we are expecting humidity and temps in the high 80's. I have to say that I am sooooo done with summer! I am a summer baby and it used to be my favorite time of year. But these days since my cancer treatment threw me into early menopause it doesn't take much to spiral me into a hot flash! And the heat just triggers lots of them. This may be the winter I will go out sans a coat!

Fall has become my favorite season not only because of the crisp, cool weather but all of the beauty up here in the northeast with the foliage changing. So to get me in a cooler mood I decided to post some pictures I took last fall near my house. Actually these were taken in the same area as my wild flowers from yesterday's post.

Of course I needed a macro shot of the leaves!

The colors against the water are so pretty . . .

This is the walktrail across the street where I spend alot of time with my pug!

What is your favorite season?

Wild Flowers

As we are on the verge fall's official arrival I wanted to share some pictures I took in the spring! Our house is across the street from a beautiful reservoir. I spend alot of time down by the water since they recently built a paved walk trail that runs right along its shore. I grabbed my camera and headed across the street to capture a few shots of these pretty purple wild flowers.

This is the view I can see from the bottom of our driveway.

These pictures were taken early morning with my Canon D10. I love to take macro shots and want to get a macro lens for my Canon XTi but I need to save up some dough for that one!

I did however get some great macro shots with the smaller D10.

And then I wanted to get even closer!

These are such tiny flowers but so pretty and what a vibrant shade of purple!

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
