Sunday Sketching . . .

Here I am still on the mend from this stomach bug that hit me last week as well as my stupid arm cyst trouble that I will spare you the details of. I have not been creating much but it felt good to sketch this morning.

I never know what these girls are going to share with me but this one had some lovely sentiments that seemed to fly right into my head! lol

"On my mind, never far from my heart . . ."

Since her eyes were closed I figured she must be thinking of someone. She never told me who it was though . . .

Linking up with Sunday Sketches today.

Sketching and Sneezing

untitled
graphite on drawing paper

Despite the fact that I have been sneezing and stuffy for the past few days I picked up my graphite pencils and created this new girl. She looks rather calm so I am guessing she obviously does not sense my frustration with my sinuses and nose! But no words came to mind maybe because I feel foggy. Allergies be damned! I never had them in my life and now the past couple of years I seem to get them every once in awhile.

I am sharing her today over at Blue Chair Diary for Sunday Sketches hosted by the lovely Sophia.

Sunday Sketches

What a crazy week it has been! Today while Rocky was sleeping in his crate I quickly tried to sketch for the first time in over a week. And it felt pretty good! It has been so stressful around here with the new pup and not much sleep. I am a bit cranky and I hate feeling that way.

I enjoyed sketching this girl and loved adding all the hearts to her hair! I am so behind in my many online classes. I have no idea when I will get to catch up. I am sorry for being so out of touch and not making the rounds to catch up with all of you. I hope to get back to that soon!

Rocky is still not sleeping through the night in his crate. He wakes up in the middle of the night and cries. I hate it but I try to ignore it. So hard for me to do. That is why I have lost so much sleep. Well, enough of that! lol

I am sharing this girl for Sunday Sketches today over at Sophia's blog! Its been a few weeks since I joined in but am glad to be back there today! Be sure to check out all the lovely work for this week! Click HERE!

Hope you are all having a fabulous day. xo

Back to Some Face Painting . . .

Untitled
mixed media on 9x12 canvas board

I hope everyone had a great holiday! Ours was quiet with my husband and I spending the day home together. I made lasagna which is one of my favorites and ate way too many italian pastries from our local bakery! Right now we are watching the snow fall here in NY. There is a fire in the wood stove and the pug is sleeping in front of it. A nice place to be.

After so many abstracts I took some time the past couple of days to work on painting one of my recent sketches. You can see the original sketch HERE. Of course the painted face looks nothing like the sketch but here she is!

I had more fun with the background than the face. I used light molding paste for texture and used payne's gray with burnt sienna for the background. It was hard getting back to faces after loosening up with the abstract work!

I hope that wherever you are you are staying warm and enjoying the day!

Tears of Love . . . New Sketch

I drew her up the other nite. I knew I wanted to make her an angel and saw hearts involved somehow. I struggled with the hair. At first I wanted her to have an updo but it wasn't working out! I originally had a halo above her head and took that out as it seemed too much to me.

The heart shaped tears were an afterthought. The tears came first and then the words that I scribbled in the top left corner which read "tears of love fell from her eyes." I will most likely collage those onto the background.

I hope to paint her this weekend!

PS . . . I finally ordered the caran d'ache watersoluble crayons last night! So excited to get them! lol

First Suzi Face Sketches!

Ok, so I will admit that I have been a bad girl. I have started my first class with Suzi Blu and I am skipping all over the place! I started with color theory, checked out the mixed media background video and then was so curious as to the face sketching that I just jumped right in with it. Oops! Can you tell I have a patience problem!

So here are a couple of sketches I did with her petit doll template. I really like how the eyes came out which is so different than what I have been doing. I am really learning alot about facial proportions which is hard for me. Hopefully you can see the shading from my scan. . .

The first one is my favorite. The second face I went tried to freehand more. So far I am really loving this class! Now if I could just stick to the lesson plan!

Shhhhh....don't tell Suzi!
