Getting Grungy With Graphite . . .

I have quickly fallen in love with Golden's graphite gray!  I knew I wanted to use a limited palette and cover up an ugly canvas I started a few weeks ago.  lol  Ahhhh, the beauty of acrylic!  I like the grungy look of this piece.  I don't feel like its done just yet.  The top may need some drips or something.  And maybe some glazing over the letters to push them back.

I see a couple of images in there as well.  You all know how much I love it when that happens!  On the bottom in the center I see very small figures walking hand in hand near a tree.  And then up on top toward the left side I see three figures floating around.  Would love to hear what you see??  Otherwise I may think I am crazy!  lol

Sharing this piece today at Paint Party Friday.

I also want to let you know that I donated some of my art/photography to an art auction being held on FB this weekend.  It is to help support young women with breast cancer.  Being a young survivor myself I am always happy to give back!  So be sure to check out this link if you are on Facebook!

  3. I LOVE the grungy look. Despite the subdued colors the whole canvas is so alive, my eyes are dancing looking at it. I see the little hand in hand figures, too. And I also see a face (maybe even in a totem pole) to the right of the top white circle on the right middle of the canvas. I really like this...I think I am inspired to try something like it. I hope you don't mind my pinning it to pinterest...with all credit of course!
    Happy PPF!

  4. Really like the texture you have achieved and the range of tone from such a limited range of colour. Takes a lot of disipline for me to stay away from colour, well done for getting such great results .

  7. Cathy, i L-O-V-E this. There is so much feeling in your work. And i absolutely love that it's gray. Color is good, but sometimes, it's just so refreshing to see a limited palette like this.
Bravo on donating your art for breast cancer research. There are still lots of good people on this earth.... xox

  8. I can see the three floating figures, and right above/next to it 2 faces. And on the right side in the middle another face..... I think when I keep staring at it some more I'll see a lot of things ;-) It's a wonderful canvas, love the limited colourpalette.

  9. Love the grungy look to this piece! Sometimes black and white can be much more visually stunning than a full color piece.

  10. Love it! I see a strong male face mid way on the right side beside the circles! Also a chubby floaty lady at the top right...and then a white face top middle looks like he has both hands up to his nose with one eye looking downward!
I think we all see different things...like looking into clouds...it's mesmerizing!! Fun searching for characters...

  13. I really love this abstract, and always adore the simple black and white!...it's fun to look for images in the shapes, but it really stands on its own without looking for them. happy PPF!

  14. Your graphite grey is stunning! I love it for the graphic in it and the colours peeking through here and there, and for the small figures you can find like you said the tree and figures walking and the floating figures up above.
Love the scribbles and markings you have made combined with the stamps.

I'm going to follow you, as I would like to see more of your art! :-)

    Happy belated PPF!
