Black And White With A Splash of Red

Something about black and white that I love.  Maybe its the drama, or maybe its because it goes with everything.  I have done many pieces in black and white with altered photos so this time I decided to try a messy abstract piece with those colors. I completed this whole piece using my fingers instead of brushes.  And then lots of white out pen and black sharpie markers.  I like the splash of red too.

I painted this last weekend just before I headed to the doctor for my emergency arm thingy.  And haven't painted all week.  I am feeling pretty crappy with this super antibiotic I am taking.  I am halfway through the 10 day cycle.  I will be glad when that is done.  The abscess is healing but my post traumatic stress continues.  I need more art.  I hate feeling so out of sorts.  I need to be kinder to myself. This too shall pass . . .

Sharing this today at Paint Party Friday

Wishing you all a nice weekend  xo

  1. This is STUNNING! I love all the movement in it! Sorry to hear about your arm. Those antibiotics knock me around when I have to take them- hope the next 5 days fly by for you! Happy PPF!

  2. This is very beautiful. I really love the patches of red on black and white. I used to take a lot of pictures in black and white and sneak somewhere in them one single detail in color. I think red, and especially crimson red, works very well with black and white.
I hope you get to feel better soon.

  3. (am breastless in the rural area...)

Sorry you are not in tip top shape, hopefully, this too shall pass.

    Hopping over from PPF.
    (like your art!)

  4. Love your palette of black, white and red!
    So powerful!
Sending you thoughts and prayers and positive energy for a speedy recovery!
    Happy PPF!!

  7. Loving your graffiti. Hope your feel a lot better soon Cathy. Happy PPF, Annette x

  8. Very vibrant and impactful! I really like the red highlights. Hope you feel better and can get back to your painting soon.

  9. The graffiti is apropos for what we all feel at times. . . didn't think about doing something like that. I appreciate your explanation of it. Blessings, Janet, PPF

  10. Totally love this Cathy. Hope you feel better soon. Big hugs.

  11. oh, hope your arm is WAYYY better....just lovin' your graffiti! xo

  12. Oh Cathy, I can't believe what you're going through with your arm (I just got caught up).....OKAY...I hope NOW it will heal for you. I like that your letting your art help you.
This graffiti style art is so cool--I need to let go and try it!!
I'm wishing you a better rest of the year!

  13. There is something very exciting going on in this painting. The fact that you did it with your hands/fingers must have added some energy that brushes alone could not have done. the colors and shapes and power here shout off the canvas!

wishing you well in healing too.

    HPPF on Saturday.

  14. First off, hope you feel better soon!! Sounds scary...take care of yourself!! This piece is actually softer with more depth this week!! I love black and white also!! The hint of red in there is awesome!! Wonderful piece as always!!

    Hugs Giggles

  15. Gives me feelings of fear or chaos... don't know well, but that is good for the artist. Saludos

  16. Really striking, it has a very urban mood and the splash of red is like blood. It's very expressive, great job!
Wish you will get well soon!

  17. Oh my dear, I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Thank goodness for modern medicine to help us heal. Your art is wonderful, as always. I wish you the best week ever! Until next time, Friend!
