Stretching To Sketch Challenge Week 5

Here is my sketch for this week's challenge over at Kelly Berkey's blog.
I suppose you could say I cheated this week or more like I got frustrated and gave up on sketching the profile of her face. I tried and tried but it just wasn't coming out right. So I decided to have her hair falling across her face. That was the only thing I changed from the original photo.

The hardest for me this week (besides the face) were the hands, legs, and feet although I think I am getting more detail in my hands from previous sketches. This is done in graphite pencil and I am loving my kneaded eraser wondering how I did the first few sketches without one!

Kelly will be posting all the results later today. Be sure to stop by her blog and check it out!

  4. Beautiful sketch, I love seeing how everyone else sees the subject and the diversity of our art is amazing. I am so glad we all have a little different style as it keeps things fresh.

  6. this is so beautiful! you did an awesome job on her hands and feet! and i love the way you've changed her so her hair covers her profile. it really makes the piece very mysterious.

  8. Hi Cathy, well first of all I'd just like to say wow! Love this sketch it's so exciting to watch your art progress like this, I love the way you have drawn the fabric and the perspective is great! I find hands the most hardest part to draw they always end up like a pile of sausages! Yours are lovely and dainty! :0) And I think the fact that you drew the hair over her face is actually a nice touch! Well done.

Thank you also for your lovely kind words on my blog, I'm feeling fine now and not so bummed about that 'missed opportunity' I'm actually thinking its not a missed one anyway and that it just wasn't right for me. Thank you for reminding me why I started being creative in the first place 'because it makes me happy'!!!! Take care and thanks again your words really meant alot :0) xoxo

  9. Hi Cathy! You did a fabulous job! The profile you created is really nice. Thanks so much for your sweet visit! And to answer your question: I started out painting on smaller pieces, like ACEO sizes. Continuous practice on smaller canvases helped me alot. You can do it too! Have fun! :)
